Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)

AMD has emerged as the primary challenger to NVIDIA in AI accelerators while maintaining leadership in x86 CPUs for data centers. The MI300 series is gaining traction with hyperscalers seeking alternatives to NVIDIA, driven by both pricing considerations and supply chain diversification.

The technical pattern shows AMD extended after recent momentum, making the $525-538 pullback zone attractive for entry. Waiting for a 1-hour chart reset—allowing short-term overbought conditions to clear—will improve risk-reward. The stock has historically responded well to patience at similar setups.

MI300X adoption is accelerating faster than expected. Meta’s public commitment to MI300X for inference workloads validates AMD’s competitive position. While the chip may not match H100 for training, its advantages in inference and TCO (total cost of ownership) create a genuine alternative for scaled deployments.

The data center CPU franchise remains robust despite Intel’s attempts at a comeback. EPYC Gen 4 (Genoa) and Gen 5 (Turin) maintain performance and efficiency leadership, protecting AMD’s 20%+ data center CPU market share. This provides a stable base business while MI300 scales.

Client CPU and gaming GPU segments face near-term headwinds from consumer weakness, but these represent smaller portions of revenue and valuation. The market increasingly values AMD as an AI infrastructure play, with data center accounting for 60%+ of total revenue.

The $517 stop level sits below recent support and the psychologically important $500 level. Breaking below this would signal technical weakness and potentially broader semiconductor sector issues. The target progression of $555, $570, and $590 reflects measured moves from the current base.

Key risks include MI300 production yields, competitive response from NVIDIA’s pricing, and potential delays in next-generation MI400 architecture. Monitor Microsoft and Amazon’s adoption signals—these hyperscalers represent the largest potential MI300 customers beyond Meta.

The 2.6:1 risk-reward combined with improving competitive position in AI justifies the A grade. AMD offers a differentiated play on AI infrastructure with less valuation premium than NVIDIA while maintaining credible technology.
